car accident story |
On saturday, 24 July 2005, I talked a friend into going to a bar with me for a few drinks. We found a driver, and since my friend already had a car, we didn't have to worry about transportation. We mixed a drink for the drive (about 45 mins) and took off to Nurnberg. I am unsure how much I drank at the bar, as the only part of remember of the evening was playing a few games of darts, and even that is a bit foggy to me, and I would not have been able to remember that on my own either. So, according to other people, here's how the story went... We left the bar because one of my friends was falling asleep, and we left much earlier than we had originally planned on leaving. We ran into another friend at the bar, and he needed a ride back to, so he got into the car with us, he sat to my right in the back seat. I was behind the driver. I buckled my safety belt, and we starting going home. On the ride back, one of my friends was hungry, so we stopped at a Burger King on the way back. After ordering, the three of us passengers fell asleep, and the driver proceeded home. While in a city, there was a vehicle driving slowly in front of us, so the driver passed it, but another vehicle was coming that he didn't see, so he had to drive faster than normal on the pass. The brakes on this car were in bad shape, and we came into a turn going too fast, so when the driver tried to break, he didn't slow down at all. The rear end of the vehicle started to fish tail, and that's when he lost control. The car appeared to roll corner to corner almost, if you look at the pictures as proof. The majority of the damage was absorbed by the back corner of the car behind me, and the passenger side front, and perhaps a little by myself, since I was really the only one seriously hurt. Damaged Car 1 Damaged Car 2 Damaged Car 3 The second one there shows you about where I was sitting during the whole fiasco. The two other passengers woke with the car upside down, and fuel pouring into the car. Neither of them were seriously injured, so they took to helping the driver and myself out. I was pretty much unconscious, and still strapped into my safety belt. Luckily one of the other passengers happened to have brought a pocket knife with him, so he cut me out of the belt, and set me on the street. He said he got me to say my name, but that was all for me. Apparently I was pretty messed up. The driver had a broken collarbone and didn't really want to get out of the car. Ok, so that's what happened. An ambulance came and took the driver and myself to the Furth hospital just a bit north of Nurnberg, since that was the closest place. The driver spent two days there, and I was put into stable condition by the emergency room staff and put into the Intensive Care Unit. Now, I'll let you know about my drugged out dream state I spent the next two + weeks in... |
